Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera Banned 5 Games for Role in Brawl

Tigers Star Punished for Role in On-Field Incident

Dispute Stemmed from Previous Hit-by-Pitch Incident

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been suspended for five games by Major League Baseball for his role in a bench-clearing brawl against the New York Yankees on Thursday night.

The incident occurred in the second inning of the game when the Tigers' Michael Pineda hit the Yankees' Aaron Judge with a pitch, prompting Judge to charge the mound. Cabrera was one of the first Tigers players to rush in and intervene, and he was seen throwing punches at Judge.

The brawl quickly escalated, with players from both teams throwing punches and wrestling on the field. The umpires eventually restored order, but the game was delayed for several minutes.

Cabrera was ejected from the game and later apologized for his actions. The five-game suspension was handed down on Friday, and Cabrera will begin serving it immediately.

The brawl was the latest in a series of on-field incidents this season that have drawn the ire of MLB. The league has been cracking down on such behavior, and Cabrera's suspension is a sign that it is taking a hard line against violence.

The Tigers are currently in last place in the American League Central with a 35-53 record. Cabrera is hitting .294 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs this season.
